DESCRIPTION-VISUAL:  An AI-assisted digital art (combining human and AI creative elements) composed of a central painted scene and digital calligraphy.  The electronically rendered imitation of oil painting depicts an Asian-looking soldier lying on the dusty ground of a desert battlefield.  Shielded by a barrier of sandbags stacked in several layers, he is saving an orphan bird hatchling's life by feeding it with tiny bits of his scarce food rations:  He uses chopsticks to pick up saliva-mollified balls of bread held between his lips and transfer them to the birdling's desperately open beak.  It's a demanding task because he needs to hold the nestling with one hand and handle feeding with the other, while heat and annoying flies make life even more insufferable.  One of the flies tickles the compassionate combatant near his eye, yet he prioritizes the broodling's welfare over his hunger and discomfort alleviation.  The inscription arranged circularly around the visual focus reads "The true us is our choices when we have no choice", properly attributed to Julion Okram right underneath.  There is a seeming grammatical tension between making choices when no choices are available, which is an intentional construct to increase the contrast on the idiomatic level:  "no choice" means the trooper in question has not chosen to participate in war, he was ordered to concentrate on killing the enemies under the threat of death penalty — not engage in altruistic distractions, et cetera.  Yet still, not disobeying the orders, not failing his morally dilemmatic mission, he still manages to demonstrate the most humane side of himself - at the cost of his own well-being and split attention / decreased wartime vigilance.

DESCRIPTION-VISUAL:  A reddish-brown wooden coffer, approximately 60 centimeters / 24 inches wide, lying flat horizontally on its hand-deep bottom tray segment, with the hand-thick lid segment raised open and two side fixtures holding it in a vertical position.  These slim fixtures are disguised in historizingly laced sleeves, which hide the modern pneumatic safety mufflers from direct view, thus preserving the craft-piece's overall retro-style appearance.  Writer Julion Okram has designed and crafted the pivoted lid as a little office cabinet with 6 (3 rows of 2) small drawers near the bottom, a much deeper and double-wide large drawer above them, and the upper floor divided into 3 compartments - the central one featuring a tambour closing mechanism similar to historical rolltop desks, and two side cabinet-like boxes equipped with single-leaf little doors.  Both doorlets are constructed from custom-made, hand-carved wooden frames holding glass panes, with a hexagonally patterned wire mesh embedded for a Medieval-to-Victorian appearance.  All these movable elements have intricate internal locking mechanisms to keep them closed and immobilized during lid lowering and subsequent shipping or travel.  The bottom segment is divided by vertical separators into 12 rectangular wells - 9 roughly mug-sized, two 2-/3-times wider, and one large with the storage capacity of about 2 x 3 mugs.  The romantic portmanteau's name "skrinet" reflects a relaxed combination of overlapping lexical hints from Latin scripto (write), Anglophone scribbling (sketching) and cabinet, and Slavic skrinka / skrinetka (small box or cupboard).
